From KLIPA to Keys: Thabo's Property Journey
When Thabo Mokoena joined KLIPA in early 2024, he had a stable salary but no understanding of property investment.
Thabo's journey began with the credit score module. His score was 580. Following the KLIPA framework, he spent four months cleaning up his credit report. By month six, his score had climbed to 690.
He identified a two-bedroom apartment in a developing area north of Johannesburg, priced below R1 million — within the transfer duty exemption threshold.
His first bond application was declined. Rather than giving up, he reapplied with a more comprehensive application. The second attempt was approved at prime minus 0.25%.
Today, Thabo's tenant covers 95% of his bond repayment. His goal is three properties within five years.
Thabo's story isn't exceptional within the KLIPA community — it's becoming the norm. As Thabo puts it: 'I didn't need to be rich to start. I just needed to know what I didn't know.'
